Great News for Place2Play!

Over the last couple of months I have been on the search for indoor venues to replace our popular place2play park sessions. This was due to the cold, wet and bad light outside conditions being unsuited and unsafe for young children to participate in physical activity with their families.

I was expecting a long and tireless search for indoor venues but to my surprise I was blown away with how willing people are to offer up their help and untimely their facilities. Firstly, Father Richard offered up his large warm hall to deliver play activities. Families have fully taken advantage of this to this kind offering with over 15 families regularly attending the weekly session. We are now planning to use the onsite attached kitchen to deliver healthy baking sessions. Which will subsequently educate families on how to bake together, the importance of a healthy diet and how to cook on a small budget.

Following on from Father Richard generosity, the kind Staff of Randolph

Beresford nursery have also offered their spacious hall to deliver play activities to local in-need families. We are currently delivering two fantastic and unique sessions there. The first being an under 5s ‘baby gym’ session where the toddlers have to navigate their way through a series of fun soft play obstacles, with the help of their parents. This has been a romping successes with over 25 families attending in just 3 sessions. Secondly, we are delivering a more traditional under 5s place2play session where the families have specifically enjoyed Coach Eric’s animal games.

The staff have been very welcoming and complimentary of our place2play sessions as one senior staff stated “I have really enjoyed London Sports Trust coming in and delivering these sessions for local families. I have particularly enjoyed how the staff have interacted with the parents as well as the children. They are always gently encouraging parents to play with their child and become more active”.

To summarise, it’s been an excellent term building partnerships with local organisations. In the coming weeks we are looking to expand the Place2play project outside of white city ward so more Hammersmith & Fulham families can benefit from the ever-growing Place2Play programme.
